Nature Walks One of the best ways to connect to spirit is to get out in nature, where there are plants, grass, and dirt. Being out in nature is very calming to our souls. When my son started kindergarten, all the busy activity of school and being away from home all day stressed him. We started taking nature walks every morning before school. We walked for half an hour and even though we lived in a big city, we found a lot of nature in our neighborhood. There was even a family of goats down the street! Sometimes we would collect feathers, pinecones, acorns or rocks we found on the ground. Other times we would take a camera and take pictures of the leaves changing colors. Just walking, talking and being out among the trees, plants and wildlife was a relaxing way to start our mornings. We had to get up half an hour earlier, but we found it was well worth our time. Is there an area where you can walk with a grown up and see nature? Even if it is just in your own backyard, you can still experience nature. As the seasons change, notice the changes in the trees and plants. Some of the plants will die and new ones will come out. What animals are in your neighborhood or park? Even if your mornings are too busy, maybe you and a parent can walk after supper, or on the weekend. |
